Based in Tokyo, Isuzu is one of the largest Japanese manufacturers of autos, trucks and heavy duty vehicles. It's a powerhouse in the field of larger vehicles and is also a massive producer of diesel engines. If you're looking for something a bit different that has a lot of bulk but is typically Japanese in terms of design and reliability, it's the brand for you!

The company was founded back in 1916 and initially produced trucks such as the T.G.E in 1919. While the company had a hand in the creation of the Hillman Minx in 1953 and the production of the Chevrolet LUV in 1972 in accordance with GM, it wasn't until 1961 that the first Isuzu car proper was released- the Bellel.

Fast-forward to 1973 and the Gemini was typical of the type of cars demanded at that time. Heavy duty, unfussy but great to drive, it's this mindset that has stuck with the company over the years.

Isuzu continued to manufacturer cars such as the Piaza and Aska well past the Millennium, but after demand fell drastically it saw better success with its range of SUVs. The Trooper, P'up, Amigo and Rodeo were all popular from the 1980s right through to the early 2000s.
